Wed. 9 December – 7:00pm | Gulmohar Hall – India Habitat Centre, New DelhiabstractKamla Bhasin, a social scientist by training, has been actively engaged with issues related to development, education, gender, media and several others since 1970. She worked on these issues with Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN for 27 years. Currently, she works with Sangat – a South Asian Feminist Network; with JAGORI, Women’s Resource and Training Centre and Jagori Rural Charitable Trust as an active member; and with SAHR (South Asians for Human Rights) as a member. Kamla’s main work has been capacity building of South Asian and other young activists and networking between civil society organisations in South Asia. She has also been conducting gender sensitisation workshops for senior NGO leaders and managers, government officials, police personnel, members of Parliament in different countries of South Asia. Kamla has written extensively on gender, women’s empowerment, participatory and sustainable development, participatory training, media and communication. Most of her books are written for activists and development workers. She has also written a large number of songs and slogans for the women’s movement, books for children, and has created many posters and banners for different movements.
